What is an API?

An API is how one piece of software talks to another. No person in the middle. No copy and paste. API stands for application programming interface.

Think of a waiter

You don’t walk into the kitchen. You give the waiter your order, and the waiter brings back your food.

An API is the waiter. One program asks for something, and the API carries the request over and brings back the answer.

A real example

  • A new lead fills in your web form. An API sends that lead to your sales software in under a second.
  • A phone call ends. An API sends the recording and the result to the same place.
  • Nobody types anything.

Why you should care

Software without an API traps your information inside it. You end up paying people to move it by hand.

Every KX21 product comes with an API. Leads, calls, signed documents and AI phone calls can all go to your other software the moment they happen.
