What is VoIP?
VoIP means phone calls that travel over the internet instead of over old copper phone lines. It stands for Voice over Internet Protocol.
How VoIP works
Your voice is turned into data, sent over the internet, and turned back into sound at the other end. It happens fast enough that it feels like any other call.
The person you call does not need VoIP. They can be on a mobile phone or a landline.
What a VoIP number is
A VoIP number is a normal phone number that is not tied to one physical line. It can ring a desk phone, an app on your mobile, or a whole team.
People dial it the same way as any other number.
What you need
- An internet connection good enough to carry your calls.
- A phone company that offers VoIP. It gives you your numbers and a price for each minute.
- Something to answer with: a desk phone, an app, call center software, or an AI agent.
VoIP and SIP
VoIP is the idea: calls over the internet. SIP is the most common set of rules for setting those calls up. What is a SIP trunk?
Where Kurrent fits
