What is a webhook?
A webhook is a message one piece of software sends to another the moment something happens. Nobody has to ask for it.
Think of a doorbell
Without a doorbell, you keep walking to the door to see if anyone is there. With one, the bell tells you the moment someone arrives.
A webhook is the doorbell. Your software gets told right away, so it does not have to keep checking.
A real example
- A phone call ends. A webhook sends the result to your sales software straight away.
- A customer signs a document. A webhook tells your system the deal is done.
- You give the address once. You tell the sending software where to send its messages, and it does the rest.
Webhook vs API
With an API, your software asks a question and gets an answer. With a webhook, the other software tells you without being asked. What is an API?
Most businesses use both: webhooks to hear about new events, and an API to look things up or make changes.
Webhooks in KX21
Kurrent sends a webhook for call events as they happen. KontrolX, Kapture and Komms can send leads, signed documents and call results to your other software the moment they happen.
