What is a PBX?
A PBX is a business phone system. It connects the phones inside a company to each other and to the outside phone network. PBX stands for private branch exchange.
What a PBX does
- Gives each person an extension. Staff can call each other with a short number.
- Shares outside lines. A whole office can use a few lines, since not everyone is on the phone at once.
- Handles calls. Transfers, voicemail, hold music and a menu that greets callers. What is an IVR?
Old PBX and cloud PBX
An old PBX is a box in a back room, wired to copper phone lines.
A cloud PBX does the same job over the internet, with nothing to install. It connects to the phone network through a SIP trunk. What is a SIP trunk?
Where Kurrent fits
Kurrent sits in front of your phone system. It checks each caller and sends the call where you want it: a phone, an AI agent, or a SIP trunk to your PBX or call center.
Kurrent is 50% off the call tracking bill you pay today, with a minimum of $1,795 a month.
