Total cost, side by side

Start with what actually gets used, not the sticker on the plan. Standard is $30 per seat per month, billed annually, and it comes with 100 envelopes per seat — per year, not per month, and not unlimited. Run a desk at 500 signed documents a month and you need 6,000 envelopes a year to cover it. Divide that by the 100-envelope allowance and you need 60 seats to stay inside the cap on seats alone: 60 × $30 = $1,800/mo, before anyone touches an overage.

Almost nobody actually buys 60 seats to sign 500 documents a month. The real-world path is a handful of seats plus pre-purchased envelope packs to cover the rest, and that is cheaper than the seats-only number above. But DocuSign does not publish a per-envelope overage rate anywhere on its pricing page, so there is no honest way to price that path here. We are not going to invent one to fill the gap — if you run this desk today, the pack price is on your own invoice, and it is not one we can see or quote.

Kapture at the same 500 signed documents a month is $15 on the unlimited e-signature subscription — $125 pay as you go at $0.25 a signed document, with your own connected storage — however many people sign each one; the row is published on /pricing. That page itself compares DocuSign against "10 seats = $300," which is seat price only, a reasonable stand-in for a typical market price but one that leaves the 100-envelope cap out entirely. It understates DocuSign at real volume for exactly that reason. This page is the one that does the cap math instead of skipping it, because the cap is where the real bill lives once a desk grows past what ten seats can plausibly sign.

The mechanism behind that $15 is the actual difference between the two products, not just the sticker price. DocuSign charges per seat and caps envelopes per seat; Kapture charges $0.25 a signed document pay as you go, or $15 a month for unlimited, both with your own connected storage — the same whether one person signs each document or five. Nobody is billed for a login. If legal, an ops manager and two reviewers all need to open and sign the same document, that is still one document under the same $15, where a per-seat vendor would ask whether each of those four people needs a paid seat to send from. Kapture does not gate any of that by tier, either — the same rate runs a two-person shop and a national desk — and the signed document and its audit trail land in your own storage, not a vendor's, so the record stays yours if you ever leave.

One more line worth reading carefully: DocuSign's ID verification charge is $2.40 per attempt, not per successful verification. A blurry photo, an expired ID, or a signer who mistypes a document number still costs $2.40 whether or not the check passes, so a signer who fails twice before succeeding has cost three attempts, not one. Build that into the estimate for any workflow that requires identity checks on top of the signature itself.
